Cornwall Spa Day: Bedruthan Hotel and Spa in Newquay.

The Bedruthan Hotel and Spa near Newquay offers a super fun take on the usual spa experience. After enjoying an amazing spa day at The Scarlet (their sister hotel) a few weeks ago, I knew that the spa at Bedruthan must be of a high standard too! This is definitely a good choice if you’re looking for a spa in Newquay.

The Bedruthan Spa and Hotel is perched on the cliffs at Mawgan Porth and is known for being an award-winning family friendly hotel which combines laid back luxury and a space for families to create unforgettable memories together. Despite the hotel being family friendly, it didn’t affect our relaxation levels negatively when we visited the spa to experience their Midweek Glow Spa Package (I love little ones but you know how it can be sometimes!). I’m positive that the Bedruthan Hotel and Spa is the perfect place for a young family getaway or for couples/friends looking for an exciting unique spa day.

The Midweek Glow Spa Package runs until the 30th June and includes the use of the indoor and outdoor spa facilities (pool, sauna, steam room), an hour in the Sensory Garden Spa, a deli lunch in the Wild Spa Cafe and a 45 minute glow treatment all for £85pp. The package has been carefully designed to reenergise the body and replenish the skin.

To begin with we tucked into a deli lunch at the Wild Cafe Spa - fortunately the weather was beautiful so we decided to sit out on the balcony and enjoy the views of Mawgan Porth beach. The cafe works in a “help yourself” structure - we found this pretty confusing as it wasn’t very clear but we eventually managed to work it out. You can pick from a number of deli sandwiches, salads, fruits and pastries - the perfect pre spa lunch that doesn’t make you too full and uncomfortable!

We then made our way to the Spa reception where one of the members of staff accompanied us to the Sensory Garden Spa which is located within the beautiful hotel gardens. I’d heard a lot about the Sensory Garden Spa so I was very much looking forward to invigorating all of my senses. The spa is inspired by fire, water, earth, air and space and you work through seven different stages that draw on sights, sounds, aromas and textures of nature.

The seven stages include exfoliating salt scrubs, a cedar wood sauna, ice buckets, and deep, restorative outdoor hot tubs. Once you have completed the six stages you are then invited to sit around the fire pit with your feet immersed in hot, copper foot baths with a herbal drink. My favourite part of the sensory journey was definitely the ‘ice bucket’ challenge - you have to stand under the buckets and pour FREEZING cold water over yourselves. We had picked a scorcher of a day to visit the spa so the cold water was extremely refreshing.

After the hour in the Sensory Garden Spa we decided to top up our tans on the vibrant sun loungers by the outside pool. Despite only being 40 minutes away from home, Josh and I felt like we were on holiday. The water in the pool was still FAR too cold for me but Josh made a good effort to jump in for a swim. I’d had worse Tuesdays!

At 4PM I strolled back up to the spa reception ready for my 45 minute Tui Na massage. The Tui Na massage uses techniques with a nourishing application of the Cornish Seaweed Company’s seaweed oil, and a rejuvenating mini facial including exfoliation with Pinks Boutique Bamboo and Oatmeal Polish and Green Clay scalp massage. Honestly, I’m not normally a HUGE fan of massages but my therapist was lovely, the Tui Na massage was INCREDIBLE and my skins felt amazing for days….top marks! I’d also like to make a special note that the spa staff were all excellent and super friendly - something that always makes me feel a lot more comfortable when at a spa.

I would definitely recommend the Bedruthan Spa if you’re looking to enjoy luxury facilities at a slightly lower price point. For extreme relaxation in an adult-only space, then I suggest taking a look at the Bedruthan’s sister hotel, The Scarlet - their spa is simply amazing. Thank you Bedruthan for a truly wonderful day.

*We were invited to experience the Mid-Week Glow Package complimentary but all opinions are my own - we had a lovely day!
