Tips for Visiting Pedn Vounder: Cornwall's Best Beaches

Years ago Pedn Vounder was a little gem of a secret. With the rise of social media and the beach being one of the main backdrops for BBC drama, Poldark, the beach has increased in popularity. Considering that most people now know about this paradise, I thought that it would be more worthwhile to share some SAFETY tips. It’s important to follow the guidelines when visiting Pedn Vounder - the climb isn’t for the faint-hearted.

Some of these images are available as prints via my Cornwall Etsy Store.

TRAVEL LIGHT

Reaching the golden sands of Pedn Vounder is always worthwhile however PLEASE pack light. The climb down to the beach is pretty intense and not ideal for older people or those who may be nervous. Expect to get down on your hands and knees to climb across parts of the cliff edge. I’ve seen people carrying huge cool boxes, inflatables, and massive BBQs - trust me, stick with a backpack and wear trainers.

KNOW YOUR TIDE TIMES

Pedn Vounder is just as beautiful when the tide is up, however, please be aware that the rip tides can be pretty dangerous around this area of Cornwall. Sadly, there have been several fatalities along the coastline so it’s clever to be aware of the currents and tide times. Don’t venture far out of the ocean if you aren’t an experienced swimmer or if you’re alone. There are no lifeguards at this beach and very little signal.

LET’S GET NAKEY

Pedn Vounder is a nudist beach - be aware! If you disapprove of nudist beaches then it’s not the place for you. Pedn Vounder has been a nudist beach for years so expect to see some nakkkkkeeeey bodies. Hey, why not get involved?

WATER, WATER, WATER

Don’t expect to run into a shop to grab supplies. Once you’ve reached the bottom of the beach, expect at least a twenty-minute climb back up to a shop (30 mins on a busy day.) The last thing you want is to run out of water when you need it the most.

Enjoy the adventure!

Pedn Vounder is easily one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall. Enjoy the adventure and explore the little coves and sea pools when the tide is out. Make sure to take your rubbish HOME. Us locals adore our beaches and it’s gutting when we see our waters full of rubbish.
