Porthkidney and Street Food from Feed & Fed: Cornwall Beaches
Blue skies, Spring is that you? With the UK waking up from what feels like almost a year-long sleep, Ellie and I decided to go and enjoy some food from our favourite street eatery, Feed & Fed located in Hayle. Feed was our saviour throughout lockdown as they were still offering takeaway - more recently they have opened their back garden for sit-down casual dining. After delicious tacos (spiced bean for Ellie and fish for myself) and coffee, we decided to venture along the coast to Porthkidney, which can only be described as a tropical paradise that looks like it should belong between the pages of Conde Nast Traveler.
We parked by St Uny Church (very limited parking) and walked through the dunes to the beach. Last year I spent many summer days on the other side of the estuary (Harvey’s Towans area) however it made for a nice change to venture in the opposite direction. Considering Porthkidney is located just 2 miles away from St Ives, the beach was surprisingly quiet. Cliche when it comes to describing a Cornish beach, but the water was remarkably turquoise, with white sands to compliment. I’ll let the photos do the talking.
With views across to Godrevy, at low tide, the beach stretches almost a mile out to sea. On the other side of Hawks Point Headland, you’ll find Carbis Bay. This summer I plan to walk from Porthkidney to Carbis Bay and then finishing in St Ives - it is supposed to be breathtaking!
Porthkidney is dog friendly all year round however it is recommended that dogs are kept on a lead along the coastal path.
