The Best Pubs in Cornwall | Interior and Food

For me, there’s nothing better during the autumn and winter months than retreating to a cozy pub in Cornwall. If you share the same love for warm, inviting spaces, then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve put together a list of my tried-and-tested recommendations for the best pubs in Cornwall, each offering a perfect blend of stylish interiors and high-quality food. These are my favorite Cornwall pubs to relax and indulge when the weather calls for comfort.

The Pig at Harlyn Bay

The Pig at Harlyn Bay, one of Cornwall’s most historic houses, dates back to the 15th century and is brimming with original features, character, and charm. Known for its dark, cozy aesthetic, it’s a dream for interior lovers like me. The hotel’s 25 Mile Menu ensures most ingredients are sourced locally, supported by suppliers and its own Kitchen Garden. During our tour, Andy, the passionate guide, showcased the garden’s high-quality, home-grown produce, enclosed by Cornish slate walls from 1831. On the grounds, The Lobster Shed offers Padstow lobster, fresh crab, BBQ meats, and garden-picked salads, with a cozy dining setup featuring a canvas roof, blankets, and fires—perfect for Cornwall’s unpredictable weather.

harbour house, flushing

Harbour House is one of my favorite pubs to escape to, nestled on the waterside in Flushing and offering all-day dining. Mumma T and I recently enjoyed a delicious lunch there (Nov24,) starting with oysters, Mylor prawns, and a prawn cocktail (going all out!), followed by beef short rib ragu and plaice for our mains, and finishing with a shared affogato for dessert. The interior is stunning and incredibly Instagram-worthy, and each table is equipped with Trivial Pursuit along with a variety of other games—ideal for a cozy Sunday afternoon.

The Gurnards Head, Zennor

As you drive along the A30 towards the end of Cornwall you’ll come across the famous yellow building. The Gurnards Head, located in St Just is a dining pub with rooms that offers a slower pace of life by the sea. A true Cornish pub where you can expect genuinely delicious food, super cosy vibes & photogenic interiors. I’ve spent many wonderful hours within the walls of this yellow building & I have no doubt that there will be many more to come.

The Peterville, St Agnes

The Peterville in St Agnes is a real gem and has an amazing national reputation. Offering a mix of pub classics and seasonal dishes, The Peterville is a great option if you’re looking for a welcoming, traditional Cornish pub by the sea (just 10 mins walk to the beach.) The Pub also offers outside decking for those that would prefer to embrace the winter air.

Tartan fox, summercourt

Tartan Fox opened at the beginning of summer, and the transformation inside the 400-year-old Grade II building is nothing short of impressive. The menu breathes new life into classic pub dishes, elevating them with luxurious ingredients and a hint of Adam’s Scottish heritage. If you’ve dined at any of Adam Handling’s pubs or restaurants, you’ll be familiar with his ethos: bold flavours paired with simplicity, all grounded in a commitment to locally grown and sustainable produce.

Everything we tried was exceptional, but my must-try recommendations are the Caviar Hashbrowns, Lobster Tart, Crab Cocktail, Shellfish Macaroni, BBQ Mackerel (special), all perfectly paired with the Adam Handling Brut.

The Rising Sun, Truro

Tucked away on Truro’s medieval route you’ll find the award-winning Rising Sun, one of the cities most-loved dining pub. Serving an array of award-winning dishes, the pub is best known to its loyal, local community for its cosy atmosphere, elegant menu and an outstanding Sunday roast. The lovely owners Tom and Katie Hannon have also recently opened Fitzpatricks, a vibrant Irish Bar in the centre of Truro.

The thomas daniell, truro

The Thomas Daniel proudly celebrates its rich history while offering a delightful fusion of restaurant and bar-style cuisine. Their dedication to Cornwall’s culinary heritage shines through in their use of fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The menu beautifully combines traditional pub favorites with creative, modern dishes, ensuring a dining experience that’s both comforting and exciting.

45 Queen Street, Penzance

Hidden in an old converted warehouse in the heart of Penzance you’ll find 45 Queen Street. It’s a real trendy, modern space that’s always overflowing with good vibes. Choose from a selection of locally sourced small plates or create your own mezze board for a real treat.
