Activities in Cornwall: Via Ferreta Cornwall

Via Ferreta located on the outskirts of Penryn is an adrenaline rush for all of the family. Expect high wire bridges, rock climbing, rope courses, and zip-lining all within a 60-acre quarry with views across to the ocean. As well as climbing and the high wire adventure, Via Ferreta also offers canoeing, wild swimming, and camping.

James (my brother-in-law) and I were kindly invited to experience Via Ferreta’s most popular course, The Full Classic. The Full Classic course really is the full experience. First, we were taken on the Adventure Course (which is the slightly easier course) where we were taught all of the basic skills of Via Ferreta at ground level. After completing the first stages, we tackled the ultimate High Wire Bridge which took us along a 70m wire across the quarry.

After the Adventure Zone, we had the option to progress to the Full Classic route. We were taken to a second quarry where visitors also have the option to go swimming or coasteering. The second quarry took us to heights of up to 20meters above the quarry as we scaled along the quarry walls. Personally, this was my favourite part of the adventure as we got to test our climbing skills. There’s just something about being in nature, scaling, and exploring places that you wouldn’t normally have access to.

Via Ferreta is a great day out for all ages (above 8 years.) There is also a cafe to relax in and watch all of the action If you don’t want to join in on the course yourself. The course took us just over a couple of hours to complete, however, we did ask to go to the front of the group so we could go at our own pace (slightly speedier than the younger ones in our group.)

An instructor is present at all times as you progress through the course. We were lucky enough to have the wonderful Evie to show us the ropes. Evie was incredibly patient and accommodating - a truly fantastic instructor!

All profits made from Via Feretta are given to BF Adventure, their charity sister company that provides outdoor adventures and team building sessions for schools, companies, and groups. A really great initiative!
