Hotel Review: Housel Bay on the Lizard Peninsula
Discover the charm of Housel Bay Hotel, nestled on the cliffs of Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula. With its welcoming atmosphere similar to a large family home, guests are invited to explore the grounds freely, sit back in the snug with a cocktail or dine in one of their two restaurants. The views from the hotel are UNREAL, offering a sense of seclusion enhanced by the fact the beach and coast path are just a stone’s throw away.
Adding to its charm, Housel Bay is home to the esteemed Fallowfields restaurant, led by Head Chef Joseph Fallowfield and honoured with 3 AA rosettes. The menu is refreshed every six weeks to align with the evolving seasons and available produce. During our visit, we enjoyed the tasting menu, offered in both short and long options, expertly paired with beautifully selected wines. The early spring menu includes dishes such as roasted seabream and Gloucester old spot pork - as well as many other dishes, but I won’t spoil the surprise.
Housel Bay is such a special place. The staff are super friendly and attentive, the food is high quality and beautifully executed, and the location is unmatched. The coast path is a 30 second walk from the coastal path - you just walk through the hotel garden (which has lots of outdoor seating - a great spot in the warmer months,) through the gate and then Housel Bay is a 5 minute walk, and Kynance is just under an hour if you’re feeling adventurous.
There is a slight climb down to the beach, but it’s not too tricky - just make sure that you wear good footwear! Apart from two swimmers, we were the only ones on the beach. Housel Bay beach is incredible, it is so secluded and to be honest I don’t think many people know about it! Escapism at its finest.
Housel Bay Hotel is such an all-rounder. From the lovely food, incredible location to the amazing staff and comfortable rooms. Thank you for such a great stay, Housel Bay!
